--THE SIMPSONS ARE GOING TO JAPAN!--

Okay, maybe not the Simpsons. Maybe just me. Actually, it is just me. Because I was selected by the good folks at JET International, Inc. Co.; Ltd. to teach my very special brand of English in Japan starting this August!

I just got my results earlier this afternoon, and while my gruff, grizzled exterior showed nary a crack or crevice of joy, my soft gooey innards were abuzz with elation. I had convinced myself I would be rejected, just because that made things easier, but I'm very glad it turned out like this. I don't know where exactly in Japan I'll be placed (that comes in probably 1.5 months), but at this point I don't really care. As long as it's not in a volcano, I'm golden. And even then, I'll probably just buy one of those tinfoil suits with the garbage can helmet.

So the blog continues for yet a while longer! I know a good number of people who got alternated (which means they'll be called up if other "shortlisters" decide not to go, or freak out and jump off Mt. Fuji once they get there), and a fair number who were outright rejected. And I'm genuinely sorry I won't get a chance to meet these people at orientation, but I really hope they find a way to get over there anyway. You can do it! Ganbare, mofos!

Anyway, a quick thanks to everyone who encouraged me/supported me/stroked my king-size ego during the app/interview process. Should be a lot of fun from here on out! I'll be back when I find out where in Japanland they'll be sending me. Stay classy, the Internet!
